The Delaware State Courts will be closed on Thursday, November 28 and Friday, November 29, 2024 for Thanksgiving. Justice of the Peace Court 11 (New Castle County) and Court 7 (Kent County) will remain open 24 hours and Justice of the Peace Court 3 (Sussex County) will be open from 6AM – 12PM (no new cases after 11:00PM).

Commissioner Martin B. O'Connor

The Honorable Martin B. O’Connor became a Commissioner of the Superior Court on November 1, 2021.

Commissioner O’Connor received his B.A. from King’s College, and his J.D. from Widener University – Delaware Law School, where he served as an Articles Editor for the Delaware Journal of Corporate Law.

Upon graduation from law school in 1996, Commissioner O’Connor served as a judicial law clerk to the Honorable Mary Pat Thynge, Chief Magistrate Judge of the United States District Court for the District of Delaware. After his judicial clerkship, Commissioner O’Connor worked as an associate for the firm known today as Chimicles, Schwartz, Kriner and Donaldson-Smith, LLP. In November 1998, he joined the Delaware Department of Justice and worked primarily in the Criminal Division for 23 years, until his appointment as a Superior Court Commissioner.

Commissioner O’Connor served as a Board Member for the Board of Bar Examiners of the Supreme Court of Delaware from 2016 until November 2021. He is also a member of the Richard S. Rodney American Inn of Court, the Delaware State Bar Association and a board member of Art Therapy Express Program, Inc.

Commissioner O’Connor is admitted to practice law before the Supreme Court of Delaware, the Supreme Court of New Jersey, the Supreme Court of Pennsylvania, the U.S.D.C. for the District of Delaware, the U.S.D.C. for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania, the U.S.D.C. for the District of New Jersey, and the United States Supreme Court.

Commissioner O'Connor’s present term ends on November 1, 2025.
