The Delaware State Courts will be closed on Tuesday, November 5th for Election Day. Justice of the Peace Court 11 (New Castle County) and Court 7 (Kent County) will remain open 24 hours and Justice of the Peace Court 3 (Sussex County) will be open from 6AM – 12PM (no new cases after 11:00PM).

Sussex County Courts including Justice of the Peace Court 2, 4, and 17 will be closing at noon on Thursday, November 7th for Return Day. JP Court 14 will be closed the entire day due to proximity to Return Day events.

The Honorable Francis J. Jones, Judge

The Honorable Francis J. "Pete" Jones was appointed to the Superior Court of Delaware by Governor John Carney on June 6, 2020.

Judge Jones received his J.D. in 1982 from the Columbus School of Law at The Catholic University of America. He was a judicial clerk to the Honorable  Justice John J. McNeilly.  He received his B.A. in History from The Catholic University of America in 1979.  Judge Jones is a native Delawarean graduating from St. Mark’s High School in 1975.

Prior to joining the bench, Judge Jones was a partner at  Morris James LLP  where he practiced  from 1983 to 2020 in the areas of  Insurance Law, Personal Injury and Alternative Dispute Resolution.

Judge Jones has been active in the high school mock trial program on both the state and national level for most of his career.  He is the recipient  of the 2019 First State Distinguished Service Award presented by the Delaware State Bar Association, the 2006 Delaware State Bar Association Vincent Bifferato Mentor Award and the 2017  Justice Gene Franchini Golden Gavel Award presented by the National  High School Mock Trial Competition.

Judge Jones is a member of the American Board of Trial Advocates and has served as President of the Delaware ABOTA chapter on two occasions.

Judge  Jones present term expires in June 2032.
