Starting in the Fall of 2024, those who regularly use N. King Street in the city of Wilmington or have business at the Leonard L. Williams Justice Center at 500 N. King Street, should be prepared to encounter traffic disruptions and traffic pattern changes. This includes one lane of N. King Street directly in front of the Custom House and on Alico Road, the road leading to the courthouse parking garage. The lane closures and changes are necessary due to the ongoing renovation and expansion of the historic Custom House property at 516 N. King Street.
November 14, 2024—One lane of N. King Street, in front of the Custom House, to close Nov. 18, 2024 and fencing will close pedestrian access in front of and behind building
November 6, 2024—Road to Parking Garage at Leonard Williams Justice Center to partially close on Nov. 12, 2024
During the construction, there will still be access to the courthouse parking garage – operated by Colonial Parking – from the Walnut Street side of the garage. (Using the address 537 North Walnut St. on a GPS device will bring you to the Walnut St. entrance.)
Drivers will also not be allowed to park or stand on Alico Road during construction or use Alico Road to drop off passengers at the courthouse. Traffic on the road and space limitation will prevent a U-turn back out onto N. King Street.
