Sussex County Courts including Justice of the Peace Court 2, 4, and 17 will be closing at noon on Thursday, November 7th for Return Day. JP Court 14 will be closed the entire day due to proximity to Return Day events.
The Delaware State Courts will be closed on Monday, November 11, 2024 for Veterans Day. Justice of the Peace Court 11 (New Castle County) and Court 7 (Kent County) will remain open 24 hours and Justice of the Peace Court 3 (Sussex County) will be open from 6AM – 12PM (no new cases after 11:00PM).

The Honorable Christian Douglas Wright Joins The Court Of Chancery As Magistrate In Chancery
On November 4, 2024, the Honorable Christian Douglas Wright joined the Court of Chancery as Magistrate in Chancery. Although Magistrate Wright plans to handle cases throughout the State of Delaware, his chambers will be located in the Leonard L. Williams Justice Center in Wilmington. Magistrate Wright occupies one of two newly funded Magistrate in Chancery positions designed to aid the court in its ever-increasing workload.

On September 18, 2024, the Delaware Court of Chancery held a special session at the historic New Castle Court House Museum in Old New Castle, marking the first time in nearly 50 years that court proceedings were conducted in the building. Vice Chancellor Paul A. Fioravanti, Jr. presided over arguments in two cases, continuing a 300-year tradition at one of the oldest continuously operating courthouses in the U.S. The event highlighted the courthouse's historical significance, with local residents and legal professionals celebrating its enduring role in the community. The Court of Chancery published revised samples of a one-tiered confidentiality stipulation, two-tiered confidentiality stipulation, and quick-peek stipulation on July 12, 2024. The revised samples conform the published forms to recent amendments to the Court of Chancery Rules implemented on May 31, 2024. The Court also issued a new implementing order addressing the May 31 rule changes. The new implementing order corrects cross references in the Comment to newly amended Rule 5 and in newly amended Rule 12(h)(2)(b). The revised sample forms and new implementing order are available on the rules web page.
