Superior Court is pleased to announce its 2012 Mediation Training
(3-day, 20 CLE hours; includes 2 hrs. enhanced ethics)
The course will be held at the Buena Vista Conference Center in New Castle, Delaware.
THE BASIC MEDIATION COURSE
(20 CLE hours total; includes 2 hrs. enhanced ethics.)

The 3-day, 20-hour training course prepares attorneys for the role of being a neutral mediator in court-mandated mediation. A combination of approaches is used in the course:

Attorney/mediator-led core training in communication, mediation, negotiation and conflict resolution skills
Superior Court judicial officer-led ethics session
Mediation skills practice sessions with court-specific cases
Senior attorney/mediator 'Mentors' who critique each mediation practice session

THE TRAINERS & MENTORS

Larry Ray, Esq.

The course's trainer, Larry Ray, Esq., is an experienced instructor who has an active history with the American Bar Association's Dispute Resolution Section. He is an attorney, licensed in both Washington, D.C. and Ohio; and an active mediator, arbitrator, facilitator, and executive coach. He teaches both classroom and online courses for the George Washington School of Law where he was named the Professor of the Year—2003 and nominated again in 2008. He also teaches labor law, negotiation, and business communication.

Mr. Ray mediates for the World Banks Group, U.S.P.S., I-OPT, Inc., United States Arbitration and Mediation Services, and the National Archives. He provides training courses for the American Management Association (AMA) and Graduate School, USDA. He is co-author of Conflict Management, Becoming a More Effective Neutral, The Conflict Resolution Training Program, and 2009 Peace Making in the Schools.

Judge Mary Miller Johnston

The course's 'Mediation Ethics' segment is led by Superior Court Judge Mary Miller Johnston. Prior to her appointment to the Superior Court bench, Judge Johnston served as Chief Counsel of the Delaware Supreme Court's Office of Disciplinary Counsel prosecuting attorney discipline cases and unauthorized practice of law matters. She formerly was a partner with Morris James, LLP practicing primarily in the areas of corporate and commercial litigation.

The Mentors

Our mentors comprise what previous attendees called the "A-list of mediators." Among them are former and current judges, commissioners, and the hottest, most sought-out mediators.
